Someone has just died. What do I do right now?

Take a breath — there's no emergency. If it happened at home, call 000 or the person's doctor so the death can be confirmed. If you need us to come out after hours to transfer your loved one, call our immediate assistance line on (08) 7094 2222 and we'll bring them into our care.

What does direct cremation actually mean?

Direct cremation is all we do. There's no service or gathering at the crematorium. Your loved one is cared for privately and respectfully, cremated, and their ashes returned to you. Many families then hold their own farewell somewhere that matters to them. Can we still see our loved one?

Yes. You can add an optional private family farewell viewing at Enfield Memorial Park for $850. Just choose it when you're arranging online, or tell us on the phone.

How long does it all take?

Accepted Answer

Usually seven to ten days from the time we collect your loved one. The main variable is how quickly the medical paperwork is signed, which is out of our hands — we chase it up for you.

Question 5

When do we get the ashes back?

Accepted Answer

Ashes are ready a few days after the cremation. You can collect them from Enfield Memorial Park, have them hand delivered by our team for a small fee, have them sent by Australia Post registered delivery, or ask us to hold them for collection until you're ready.

Who is allowed to sign the paperwork?

The person legally responsible for arranging the funeral — usually the executor of the will, or the closest next of kin. If you're unsure whether that's you, call our general enquiries line between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, and we'll work it out together.

Question 7

Is the online form secure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Arrangements are made through the online form, because the registry and crematorium forms need your signature. Everything you enter is sent over an encrypted connection straight to our care team, and it's only used to arrange your loved one's cremation. We never sell or share your details.

What if I start the form and can't finish it?

That's completely fine. Your answers are kept on your device as you go, so you can close the page and pick it up later. If you need help, call our general enquiries line between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

What if we can't afford the full cost upfront?

We don't offer payment plans, but you may be eligible for help through the South Australian Funeral Assistance Program. You can find details and apply at sa.gov.au/topics/care-and-support/concessions/funeral-assistance-program-.

Do you look after families outside Adelaide?

We do. We cover the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu, Barossa and much of regional South Australia. A travel cost applies beyond the metro area, and we'll tell you exactly what it is before we set out.
